Monday check-in

In past years, we met with all 9th graders in the cafeteria during one period to welcome them to high school; introduce their support team; go over basic expectations, etc. This year, however, we changed it up a bit. The administrators have been pushing into 9th grade World History courses and running circles with students. This allows a much more personal connection with our 9th grades; something that is important to all of us! Check out a few pictures below.

Hi, I’m Kelsey Onder and I will be teaching Math at PHS. I received my Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Michigan State University and completed my student teaching at East Middle School in Farmington, MI. After student teaching, I moved to New York City and began working at a middle/high school in The Bronx. I spent the last four years there and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to serve as an instructional coach for the department. Although it was hard to say goodbye to the amazing students and staff, I am excited for all the new opportunities Plymouth High School will provide.

This summer I took classes to become a PADI open water diver so a personal goal of mine is to complete the open water certification dives so that I can be PADI certified and enjoy scuba diving for many years to come. Being new to PHS this year, a professional goal of mine is to build relationships with my colleagues so that I can create a support group of individuals who push me to grow as an educator and challenge me to think about new ideas from a variety of perspectives.

I recently moved back to Michigan from New York City because of my fiancé, Nick, starting as an orthopedic surgical resident at The Detroit Medical Center. We are excited to be back near our parents, who live in Novi, and my brother and sister-in-law who also live nearby. I am especially excited to be working with my sister-in-law, Chelsea, this year! In my spare time, I love to hang out with my family and friends outdoors. During the warmer months I love to spend time on Torch Lake and in the winter I enjoy snowboarding up north. I also enjoy cooking, reading mysteries and memoirs, and trying out new fitness classes.

Five words to describe my classroom would be:

Did you know that one can never review morning drop off procedures enough? Even though we are experiencing July temperatures, the amount of daylight continues to decrease each day so it seems like a good time to review drop off procedures.
  • Please pull all the way around the drop off circle. P-CEP students walk a lot. Trust me, they will be fine if they have to walk a little further to the front door. Not pulling all the way forward in the loop, and stopping at the front entrance, makes for a much slower moving morning drop off. Again, please pull all the way around the loop and students can get out as soon as you are at a sidewalk.
  • Students must be dropped off at the curb. For the safety of our students, you must drop students off at the curb. Do not ever double park and let students cross in front of another car to enter the building.
  • Staff Lot: For the safety of our staff, please do not use the staff lot as a student drop off.
Did you know absences need to be called in to the attendance office by the day following an absence? Please see the language below, which was cut and pasted out of our K-12 Student Handbook. High School: Parents/guardians must notify the student’s home school on the day a student is absent or by 7:00 a.m. the following day. Parents may call the Attendance Office between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. or call the recorded answering service between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The Automated Parent Notification System (APNS) will notify parents daily if students have an absence or tardy which is unexcused as of 2:00 p.m. on that day. Calling into the Attendance Office is the only way to excuse an absence. Students may be assigned detention(s) for unexcused absences. The number to the Plymouth Attendance office is 734-582-5545

Did you know that we have a P-CEP Career Center located in Canton High School? Check out some of the scheduled visits HERE
